What is Reach Out programme

Reach Out programme offers free and confidential support service for New Zealanders concerned about the extreme or violent behaviour and views of a friend, peer, or loved one. If you are worried about someone in your life and not sure what to do, we are here to help.

This programme is for everyone in New Zealand, no matter their location. 


Our services are free and offered without judgment, regardless of your background, circumstances, or beliefs.

We believe that you shouldn't have to struggle alone

We know how hard it is to support others in your life who are struggling and exhibiting extremist views, whether it be a friend, family member, or student. We're here to guide you through the process of seeking professional help so you don't have to go through this alone.

Questions and answers

Here you will find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about our services. If you have a question that is not answered here, please feel free to email us at reachout@rise.net.nz.

  • Reach out programme is for people in New Zealand concerned about the extreme or violent behaviour and views of a friend, peer, or loved one. This can include behaviour and views exhibited online or offline.

  • When you contact us, you will be connected with an experienced counsellor who will provide nonjudgmental support to address your needs.

  • When you reach out, you will speak to one of our counsellors. We have over 30 years of experience in providing support to New Zealanders exhibiting potentially violent behaviour. If you're concerned about someone you know, we can help out.

  • Yes, what you share with our staff is confidential. We maintain strict confidentiality standards. We cannot disclose information about you or what you tell us.

    However, if we suspect child abuse, or maltreatment or imminent danger to either yourself or others, we are legally obliged to take action to ensure public safety.

  • If you are worried about someone, but do not feel that they pose an imminent risk of violence, you can reach out to us via this website.

    If someone you know is in imminent danger of harming themselves or others, please call 111.

  • No, reach out programme services are free for New Zealand-based individuals.

  • We are not connected with the Police and will only engage with them if we become aware of an imminent threat to public safety.
