BEQUESTS
Many New Zealanders have made provisions in their wills for special gifts to charities. If you would like to make a difference in the lives of those in your community you can make a gift in the form of a bequest in your will to RISE.
After you have made provisions for family and friends, you can make gifts to charities. You can leave a percentage of your estate - which is helpful as it allows for inflation or other changes in the estate - or you can leave a specific dollar amount.
Your independent legal advisor can help you find the right words to make sure your wishes are prepared appropriately. We have also given you sample text you can use:
"I give and bequeath the sum of $________ (or) _____% of my estate, (or)
“I give and bequeath the remainder of my estate, (or)
“I give and bequeath the following property and/or assets (list: ________________ free of all charges …
… to the order of RISE Living Safe (our legal name). The official receipt of the Manager or other authorised officer of the Trustee is an absolute discharge to my executors.”
You may wish to prepare a statement of gift and ask your legal advisor to include it in your will. All bequests must be written into your will and must be signed by you.
